The thousand torii gates at Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine; crimson pillars that lead one to the place of the gods. A further torii gate is added each time the wish of visitor to the shrine comes true; there are currently more than 10,000 of them, and the number continues to grow. These crimson gates start from the entrance to the mountain, the site of the god’s advent, and continue unbroken to the summit, providing a gateway from this world to the spirit world of the gods.
